Question:
The Leafs rock and here is why. What is another reason the Leafs are awesome?

I have been there…knee deep…in loserville. Nothing feels worse than having your team start off with an almost nonexistent presence. At least when you end a season crappy, you have the entry draft. I know a few season ago, there were some Leafs fans that ruffled my feathers over being a loser hot weathered expansion team fan…..so this is my way of “being the better person”.

The Leafs rock and here is why:

>>>>>Tomas Kaberle has 4 assists in 6 games! If he keeps that up, he will be on the same track of his 2005-06 season, where he had the 82GP, 8G, 58A, 67P record…..which made him the 5 highest points scoring D-man in the league.

>>>>>>Colton Orr and Mike Komisarek are 2nd and 3rd in PIMs. This may not bring wins, but somebody is kicking tail with them on their fantasy league. *raises and lowers eyebrows*

>>>>>>>>The most goals any player has on the Columbus Blue Jackets & the Florida Panthers is two goals…..and Alexei Ponikarovsky (yes, I had to look up how to spell that) and Matt Stajan have THREE goals. Huh, eh, eh *elbow nudge*

Okay……if you have nothing nice to say about the Leafs…this is NOT a question for you to answer. Can you think of another nice thing to mention about the Leafs this season?

Well yeah we're negative... it doesn't matter how many goals a player has if his team hasn't won a game yet in the season! Matt Stajan is a bright spot though.

You know what the Leafs need? A marquee player. All other SUCCESSFUL teams have one or more.

Penguins:

Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin

Flames:

Jarome Iginla, Dion Phaneuf, Miikka Kiprusoff

Red Wings:

Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood

Canucks:

Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Roberto Luongo

The list goes on. Even past successful teams always have famous, amazing players. These are from different eras, and are in no specific order.

NY Rangers:

Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Bryan Hextall

Pittsburgh Penguins:

Mario Lemieux

Los Angeles Kings:

Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Kelly Hrudey, Marty McSorley, Jari Kurri

Edmonton Oilers:

Wayne Gretzky, many of the same listed above, Grant Fuhr, Mark Messier,

It should be clear that all successful, winning teams have marquee players. The leafs don't yet have one. Also, the goaltending seems to suck in Toronto! Most goals against so far this year! These are the reasons everyone is so pessimistic!

Nice stuff about the Leafs... they have an 0-5-1 record, soon to be 0-6-1. Maybe we can get a really really good draft pick!

Matt Stajan is another highlight as already mentioned.

Maybe the Monster if he improves!

1) Kaberle is a good player and those would be good numbers to end with. However, that means nothing if you don't have goaltending to stop other teams from scoring 4-5 goals every night. I watched some of the Leafs-Rangers game the other night and Toronto looked terrible.

2) You already contradicted this yourself...PIMs don't bring wins! Fantasy leagues mean nothing in the chase for the Cup.

3) Toronto has played six games and won none of them...Columbus has played five games and won four. In those six games, the Leafs have scored 13 goals...the Jackets have scored 14 in one fewer game. Toronto has two players with three goals and one with two...Columbus has five players with two goals. That means Columbus is getting secondary scoring while Toronto is relying on Stajan, Ponikarovsky, and Hagman alone. Toronto's GAA is 4.64...Columbus' is 2.20.

But you're right, the Leafs "rock." That's why they're 0-5-1, right?

Look, you can have all the talent in the world on a team, but if they don't work well together, they will fail. Look at the Russian hockey team in the '70s...the NHL All Stars were embarrassed by them because the Russians knew how to work with each other while the All Stars tried to win it on individual talent only.

Whatever the mentality is in Toronto right now is not working. If they want to win, they will have to change, period. Until then, you can keep living in your delusional world. Send me a postcard.

You know what Homes, You made me feel better. Thank-you for that!

Okay something that makes the Leafs (there we go again I feel bad) Rock! Hmm... Let me think. This shouldn't be hard since I'm a Leafs Fan. But I'm thinking really hard. Well let's see;

- Going 0-5-1 in the first 6 games I'd say that's pretty damn special.

- Toskola letting in 19 goals in 3 games and 1 period of play.

- No First roand draft pick this year... or next year!

- MLSE has a good Business plan.

- Me being a Leafs Fan.. aha.. that's pretty damn special too!

- ACC has 13 new types of hotdhot dogs

- Original 6 team ( but someone already said that)

- Loyal Fans. That's a Positive.

- Live City to play in.

- Great History... 13 Stanley Cups.

- And hopefully a Bright Future.

Okay that pretty much Sums up why the Leafs Rock!

Actually, even if they bomb this year, the draft'll mean nothing because we gave up the first and second for Kessel.

Kaberle's still not fantasy player material because of his +/- being on the Leafs.

Orr's great for fights, but after the first game, Komisarek was told to keep it down (17 PIMs in the first game, and four or so afterwards). I say let him play his game because he looks so uncomfortable playing right now.

I was very surprised Wilson scratched Stajan with his team leading three goals (I think two of those were on the PP).

With the exception of charity work, I have nothing nice to say about the Leafs...and I'm a Leafs fan.

I have been trying to think of a positive answer to this question for the last 2 hours and I am POSITIVE that even if I wait 2 more hours it ain't coming.

I guess I can say that the Leafs have the best business model or situation ever. They make money no matter what the on ice product is, in fact they can raise prices in an economic downturn when the team has missed the playoffs for 4 straight years.

As a business, I guess owning the Leafs is like being the only drug dealer in a town of wealthy junkies.

EDIT: Leafsfan29 deserves best answer on this one. I got more entertainment out of reading that than any game so far this year. The anal accountant in me really appreciates the economic spin offs of a struggling leafs team. No wonder they can raise prices.
2009-10-15 08:18:36 UTC
The Leafs might not do well this year, or the next or the next BUT, it's pretty much guaranteed they're not going anywhere anytime soon. The Leafs are here to stay. Look at the Penguins a few years ago or the Islanders and Coyotes now. Their future was/is uncertain. I'd take a losing team with stability within their towns over a winning team with a chance of relocating anyday.

PS. Nice lid?? are you guys smoking pot?

The Leafs are helping the economy (and look at that Loonie soar...97 cents!). It's their own little economic stimulus. Let me explain:

In just six short games they've dressed four goalies. Each of these goalies needs equipment, which helps companies in that they have to equip goalies to NHL standards. At this rate, they'll be dressing around 50 goalies by the end of the year. And just think how many people will have to buy sweaters to go along with the Raycroft collection of 2007, the Pogge collection of 2009, etc...

This alone keeps Howard Berger busy ripping Burke, Wilson, MLSE, and all the people who make him cry (meaning he isn't squatting in front of my building asking for change), and keeps Bob McCown from doing whatever it is he might otherwise do if he weren't yelling on the radio (presumably it would involve stealing a shopping cart and wandering around aimlessly yelling at random people).

I won't even mention my personal contribution to the distilled spirits industry. You're welcome. Someone has to produce it, bottle it, ship it, and then sell it to me (note to self...does LCBO deliver?).

When people get s**thoused, that usually means a hangover. Well, by golly, gotta cure that...so your breakfast places (not to mention Tim Hortons) get incremental business...someone has to brew that coffee and fry up those donuts. Failing that...it's a trip to the store to buy Alka Seltzer or other remedies...oh yeah, the economy is pumping now!

End up in flagrante delicato with a Leafs fan of the opposite (or same, if that's your thing) sex, and you might have to make the walk of shame. Another trip to a store to buy toiletries and possibly some clothes. Plus this may mean you have to buy propholactics.

Uh-oh...eating that entire box of Timbits was a bad idea. Now you've put on about 10kg and your a$$ is enormous. Time to join a health club! Can't join a health club without buying expensive shoes and clothes to work out in.

If you didn't use "protection" and had the kind of judgement that Komisarek has...well, you're gonna need to buy some cream for that.

And just think, if the Leafs were mediocre none of this would be happening.

The other 29 GM's calling Brian Burke to make trades...that's airtime which isn't free.

At some point Burke may have to buy a new pair of binoculars.

The Leafs make so much money during the regular season that it would be unconscionable of them to make the playoffs and take away playoff revenue from a less fortunate team.

It is entirely this unselfish attitude that allows them to continue to finish at below "acceptable" standards.

That and the gross amount of revenue that the team generates allows them to share this excess profit with their less fortunate brethren.

Thus the Leafs are the NHL's answer to the United Way.

The Leafs have the best fans. Stupid but, no one is more loyal.

Homes this team is terrible. Worst Leaf team I've seen in my life.

My protest is with the owners. Not the employees. And certainly not the fans. I don't know if it will make a difference but, damn it, it's time someone stood up.

The colours this time of year are fantastic.....especially the "Sugar Maples". It all has to do with the "saps'. j/k

In all honesty they are my second favorite team. But it's the squeeky wheel that gets the grease and if Leaf fans continue to bend over...well, MLSE will continue to drill you. Stand up instead of bending over and SPEAK OUT!

PS....Nice lid.

Still not sure if it'll be The Leafs on the bottom or the Sens come the end of the season.

Here's something nice to say about the Leafs..........

They are still better than the Islanders!

I would imagine the ACC being a better arena than the Nassau Mausoleum( even though the Mausoleum does have great sight lines)

Something nice about the Leafs this season: (prays to JC to forgive him as this isn't in my nature) They have scored more goals than the following teams: Buffalo, Ottawa, Montreal, Atlanta, Florida, St Louis, Minnesota, Phoenix, and (gasp!) nearly twice as much as Nashville.

The Leafs rock because back in the '90's they had a guy named Al Iafrate who won the NHL's hardest shot contest, he was among the finalists for fastest skater - and he smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.
2009-10-15 09:07:00 UTC
The Leafs rock... because they always can depend on Ian White to be another Goalie for us... :) if you have no idea what I'm talking about ... that's okay :) Last game against the AVS White made a couple of saves in our net! Thanks to White the score didn't go higher!!!! LOL

Awwwwwwwww look at you trying to be nice to Leafs fans.

Bright side?Hmm well they won't set any records for losses in a row because they meet the TB Lightning on Nov 3rd :)

Its fall, what do you think Leafs do? Thats right, turn colors and drop to the ground where they will be mulched up or vacuum'd up or left to decay.

Positive thing about the Leafs? The teachers pensions keep rising with every sellout and every jersey sold.

They are my sister's second favorite team after the Sharks.

They also have Ron Wilson, who is a fired coach by the Sharks

Plus they have Toskala.

Wait, was the last one nice?

Luke Shenn, I think he is going to be great. I can't believe that someone hasn't said him yet. Wow! He already a solid player. He has all the tools.

ok, um positive....well we scored 7 on the leafs. That made me happy =D. Tell toskala that the crazy kid in section 415 says thanks. And I remember Colty he does kick tail. Oh and the 19 cups in team history don't hurt.
