How can you people be so absentminded? Notice how the question doesn't say "current hockey player"? How can you not think of Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux, Phil and Tony Esposito, Bobby and Brett Hull? This is just a small fraction of the greatest players in the world.

Ever- How in the heck can you not say Gretzky? He holds like 60-something records. He has more goals than anyone has points. Dont care how athletic you are, you dont come NEAR Gretzky.
Goalie Ever- Vladislav Tretiak ( USSR goalie in from the 60's- 80's). 1.77 GAA in over 20 years. Played against the best in the world all the time. Imagine going through the Olympics 20 times and ending with a 1.77 GAA. Now do that for 25 years straight and you might begin to sniff Tretiak.
Now- gotta go with Jaromire JAgr. Watch him on the ice, he is magnificent. His puck handling reminds me of a point guard in the NBA. He has a SICK wrist shot. His slap shot is great too ( when he doesnt break his stick). His passing is phenominal. Leads teh League in goals, points and 3rd in assist. Id say he's a pretty darn good one.
Now Goalie- Dominick Hasek in his prime, but Martin Brodeuar overall. All I can say is, DAM. Any player in the NHL will tell you he is the LAST person they want to face. This year in the shootouts he has stopped 44 of 47 shots. 44 stops on 47 breakaways. Breakaways!! Dont get better than that.

all-time best player- Lemieux. Not to take anything away from Gretzky, but Mario was a much more talented playmaker. But, no doubt, Gretzky was the most prolific scorer in world.

Ovechkin (watch his moves and speed!) He played for the Russian team during this year's Winter Olymipics. I think he plays for the Washington Capitals in the NHL but I'm not 100% sure

Anybody that has watched Jaromir Jagr play, knows that he is the grestest player in the world.
Among goalies - I would have to nominate Martin Broduer.

When he's healthy, Peter Forsberg. No question. After that, I'ma seriously have to go with Jerome Iginla.

there are so many. i'd say crosby, yzerman, kariya(a few of canada's finest), selanne(finland),lidstrom, forsberg(sweden). there are so many that it would take a while to list them.
