Question:
Is it pathetic or a sign of independence to attend hockey games by yourself?

I could have asked friends/family to attend with me--but since they don't enjoy the sport like I do, I didn't want to make them attend. I've done this a couple of times, and people sitting near me stare as if they want to ask why I'm alone--but they don't. I know it's not "wrong" to attend games by myself--but it does feel a little weird. Everyone I know says they could never go anywhere like that alone... but I can't be the only person who does this, right?

There's absolutely nothing pathetic about getting up and doing anything by yourself. And you're not the only one.

When people are stareing at you, could it be that they envy you and your self assuredness

Independence. Why should you stay home because your family and friends don't like to go? I've found that hockey fans in the cities I've attended games at are pretty nice (if you are cheering for the home team :-)

I've made more than a few friends by going to games and striking up a conversation with people sitting close by. It works even better if you have a season pass. That way you are usually seated close to the same people for each game and you tend to get familiar with each other.

Do what you want to. People probably will find it odd. I'm an only child and do a lot of things by myself. I will often times tell people that a friend cancelled at the last second or something like that just to save face. I admit it. If your by chance attending Avalanche games send me an email and we can definately go together!

I attend sporting events by myself occasionally as well. Sometimes I get strange stares, but I try to ignore it.

I enjoy it better sometimes. I get to focus on the sport rather than on the people I'm attending with.

It's neither, If it's something you enjoy, go, have fun, I'd bet you're not the only person that's by them self. Me, I'd strike up a conversation with the person next to me. Ask who's their favorite player, then sit back and have a good time.

Life's to short to not do what you enjoy.

It's Pathetic to attend hockey altogether.

Its an awsome sport its good that you go come live in toronto and youll never go to hockey game alone. But the ticket prices are kind of high. :(

You like the sport, who cares if you don't go with someone. You're there more for the love of the game, and less for the company

I don't see anything wrong with it. You are just doing what you want to do and i think its nice you don't want to make other people go since they don't enjoy it. If you like going alone then do it, don't let anyone stop you!

it can be weird, but learn to be different than others. you have the drive to go by yourself. it's better to be independent because you might meet a hard core fan. by the way, if you live in the sunbelt like i do, do you really think there are lots of people who have the same passion as you.
