John Madden is the John Madden of hockey. But if you mean a big blow hard, that is trying to promote his sport , while being annoying a lot, Then I agree , that is Don Cherry.

I would say Pierre McGuire. Don Cherry is nothing like John Madden. He says whatever is on his mind and will actually make sense, while Madden says weird, convoluted phrases that nobody will understand.

It's not Grapes. He does a seven-minute segment during the first intermission. Madden is the game analyst.

I'd have to say Harry Neale. Both seem to wonder aimlessly about, they're both old, and both have deeply-forged biases. When both are on they're good, but when they're not (which is all too often) it gets pretty tedius.

Athough, Madden is without peer when it comes to taking 5 seconds of material and getting 2 minutes out of it.

Don Cherry is like the Archie Bunker of hockey. Being close to Canada we get CBC and I watch 'Hockey night in Canada' religiously. I love him, he pisses off alot of politically correct people but he tells it like it is and pulls no punches. How can you not respect that. If you want the truth, albeit a little slanted ask Don Cherry. Mickey Redmond is a fantastic color man and really the rest of the country is missing out on his talent for adding color and insight into what actually is going on down there on the ice surface. The little things alot of people don't see. I think if the rest of the country could listen to a game he calls you'd love him.

Don Cherry couldn't carry the crust in Madden's jock.

I don't believe that figure has existed in hockey since John Davidson left the broadcast booth.

Don Cherry is the Madden of hockey, because he is the guy they look to in hockey to analyze every issue in the NHL.

Don Cherry for sure. He is not well known unless you are a hardcore hockey fan. Check him out.
