Game of the Week: Sabres and Flyers?

Who happened to decide that the "Game of the Week" on NBC would be the Sabres and Flyers game? One of the best teams against the worst team in the NHL this season. Is this a rivalry because I can't think of any other reason this would be considered game of the week.

This is a game between two teams with a lot of history between them. Even though this is not a division rivalry, there is always a good game between these two games. Look at game 5 of the first round of the playoffs last year, the Sabres scored 5 goals in the first period and it still ended up being an awesome game. Esche even came out of the net to pick a fight. And the whole Campbell hit on Umberger, that turned a lot of heads. Bottom line I'm very excited about this game and how Biron plays against his former team.

Living in Buffalo there is a monster following of the sabres. Philly is not a major rivil of the sabs. Toronto and Ottawa are the main enemies of the sabres. The only real focus is Marty Biron vs. his old team on the last game of the season before the playoffs. The other game at 1pm is the stars and blackhawks, I believe that many more people would like to see the Sabres vs. Philly. This game is pointless to Philly then a one-legged man in a field goal kicking contest. To the sabs however this can mean that it can be a game where they can clinch home ice throughout the playoffs. Oh yeah GO SABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the Flyer's are going to be pissed off at the Sabres beacsue of the last game and because of the lousy season. So I would expect alot of fights. Plus also they schedual these games bhefor the season even started. And from last season it would be the game of the week (if the Flyers were all healthy)

I agree that it should be a blowout in favor of the Sabres, but for two reasons it may have been chosen: the first is there is a rivalry, and the second one possibly because now Marty Biron has been traded to Philly and it is the first game against Buffalo.

I agree. Game of the Week or biggest joke. One team has the Eastern Division locked up and the other has the basement tied down. Who cares. I don't think that Sabres and Flyers fans even watched. NBC blows, you wouldn't see the CBC selling that sh*t.

2) The game involves the highest market teams they can come up with.

3) The game is in the appropriate time slot.

maybe because they decided on this game in the beginning of the season when nobody really thought philly was gonna be this bad and the fact that in the beginning of the year philly and buffalo kinda had a little rivalry going from the playoffs last year with both coaches and teams..

i think this game was chosen to showcase the talent of the Sabres and this would of been a good matchup if the Flyers didnt suck this season. in previous seasons, this would of had playoff implications but this season it has no impact on anything.
