Scoring the winning goal in a shootout gets your team 2pts, and a win. The losing team gets 1pt for forcing a shootout, and having a tie through the 5 min. overtime. I know for the fan the shootout is exciting, but wouldn't it be better if the NHL went back to at least a 10 min. OT with goals, and assists counting for the players?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

A player does not get a point for scoring the game winning goal in the shootout because it is not a true game goal. A shootout is just a way to split the tie. It is not a part of the statistic game. The same way that the saves a goalie makes doesn't count toward his total saves in the game.

If a player scores in OT he will get credit, because OT is still game like scenario. We use it in every game , even ones that matter (playoffs). I've always been for adding a few more minutes to the OT period it definitely seems a bit short, but I could understand why they wouldnt.

I would also be for the scenario that a lot of people are suggesting which is 5 minutes of 4 on 4 followed by 5 minutes of 3 on 3. This should settle it, no matter what. But if it really doesn't go down to 2 on 2, which is more like animated, Xbox hockey. And then if necesarry go to the shootout. IT would hardly ever get to 2 on 2 because when you have so much open ice with 3 on 3s someone usually scores rather quickly. The same way that it happens pretty often that a team wins in OT without the shootout.

It's not a true goal. A shootout is just a way of settling the game so it doesn't end up in a tie. I would rather have ten minutes of four-on-four before going to the shootout as well, and because overtime is a true "game situation", those goals should count.

And you get a point for forcing overtime; even if you lose in overtime, you get a point.

Since goals don't count in a shootout, I don't think that if someone scores the game winning goal in a shootout that it would count as a game winning goal in his statistics. One hell of a goal by Kozlov eh? I am happy Washington won.

A 10 minute overtime would involve A) Ties. B) A 3rd intermission, and worst of all...TIES. I'd rather f*ck a lawnmower.
