Well I grew up next door to a now very famous NHLer and yes he played Team Canada too! They were four brothers and all the boys in the neighbourhood just always seemed to gather to play in our mutual driveway that we shared with our neighbours. There wasn't a day our driveway (spilling over onto the street) wasn't filled with boys playing hockey.

My favourite memory is that before my dad wised up and put metal mesh over all the basement windows...they would often get smashed by a ball or puck...so out would come running my (Italian) grandma with her wooden spoon waving in the air and chase everyone off. If you knew how common this scene was would you would laugh...because there were kids who would purposely entice her just to see her chase them with a spoon, broom, and often wooden bat...it was comical. My grandma didn't speak Engish so often she went by body language and she would just know when they were making fun of her and that would just get her going even more!

Mr. S. next door however always very kind and made sure any damages were paid for by the responsible party...I would just sit on my porch and watch all the action. I couldn't play of course...there weren't many girls on our street and so it wasn't much fun being a girl and being told hockey was not for girls that's for sure!

Now I watch my own boys play and those will one day be fond memories too.

Well, where do I start!?! I'm born and raised in Detroit so of Course the Red Wings! But, there is more to it then just that. I've played hockey my whole life, and in the summer when I was a kid, would participate in the Jr Wings hockey Camp with Red Wing players making appearances and skating with us little 7 and 8 yr olds. I thought that was awesome and always looked up to them for that. Plus we have a Bar here in Detroit Called the Hockey Town Cafe that is around the Corner from Joe Louis Arena. The History and Heritage with the Team has a lot to do with why the Wings are my Favorite Team. I'm also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a Buffalo Sabres Fan.

Well, I play on a newly put together all girls team. I live in a city that has about 20 thousand people and only about less then 100 girls play hockey. Probably around 40 now that we have had a year of playing.

On my bantam team, we had some 11 year old, 12 year olds and some 13 year olds. Only one of them being a goalie and five of them actually played hockey before. The rest were new to it.

We went into a girls toury, just doing it for fun. But we ended up having two overtime games and wining the second place meddle after a shootout. I have to say, me I have been playing hockey for as long as I could remember, and I was pretty surprised at how good girls can be when they put their minds into it.

There are two, when I was in Grade 6, in early 2004 (I have my own backyard rink every year) I started it off as just a little thing where me and my friends have a game of hog/shoot around. Nothing else. But it turned out to be really great, because tons of people were home, which rarely ever happens to me where all of my friends are home at one time. It was -35 outside and we played for 6 hours, I think the total number of people there was 14. It was one of those things where you had to be there, it was really great from start to finish.

Then we played road hockey, this time intended for alot of people in November. It was a game that 17 people showed up too. We had so much fun it went an hour longer than scheduled. It was 3 hours of a great road hockey tournament and two more hours of a great movie (we watched Forrest Gump) and best of all, I did the game for charity. I made a video of the game and sent it to one.org but they didn't accept it. It was still a great party! Here a link to the video on YouTube:

Teaching my 3 year old how to play road hockey with the neighbourhood team. Between coming home from work and dinner each of the kids in the neighbourhood would come out to play with me, my daughter and my neighbours husband. It was where she began to learn about teamwork, passing and being a good sport.

She's 9 now and one of her favourite things is watching and discussing hockey games during the season. Go Canucks Go!

PAUL HENDERSON

The Goal of the Century

Paul Henderson, a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, became a Canadian sports legend on September 28, 1972. His goal, with 34 seconds remaining in the final game, lifted Canada to victory in the "Series of the Century", against the Soviet Union. Incredibly, Paul Henderson scored the winning goal in each of the last three games of this historic first series between the two superpowers of hockey.

That goal is the reason why every little kid right now wants to be in the nhl.

My favourite memory? Well one time I was playing on a midget hockey team. Our team won the league championship and we got an invitation to the national finals in Regina. On the bus ride the guys on my team were just unbelievable. We were listening to our Walkmans and talking non stop hockey. When we got to the hotel the guys were crazy-u know being away and having freedom from their parents.

The game was even better. We were down 5-0 into the second and came back to tie the game. It went to OT then the a shootout. Everybody missed and my best pal who was the worst player on the team scored. He worked so hard and never complained about his ice team. So nice to see him get the goal. On the way back everyone was just so high spirited. These hockey childhood memories are ones to treasure as they can not be experienced again!

When it was my eleventh birthday my mom took me to see my first hockey game at the Gardens, the Leafs won, after the game she took me where the players come out and I got almost all of their autographs, a moment I will treasure for ever. I have 7 brothers who all play hockey, great memories. I also have an amazing hockey card collection.

Growing up in Canada, road hockey was what everyone did. We played every season of every year for as long as we all went to school.

My favourite memory was being goalie. I was 5 years younger than most of the boys in the neighbourhood, and about two feet shorter than them. I recall seeing these giants running at me and slamming me with a slapshot that would make a grown man cry like a school girl....but, I took it and played on....and of course, I got stuck moving the net everytime a car would come up the road. Great times....great memories...thinking about it still makes me smile (especially with the game playing on the tv tonight in the background).

I've been a HUGE hockey fan for as long as I can remember. My husband, being the wonderful guy he is, surprised me by taking me to The Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto for our honeymoon! No small feat, as we live in the southwestern part of the United States. When we finally arrived at the Hall, he graciously accompanied me inside, then stood by me as I stared at and oggled everything in sight. I knew he had no idea what the big deal was, but he never complained or seemed bored.

When I finally saw the Stanley Cup, I cried. It was so beautiful!

It was definitely my most awesome hockey memory!

It was in the '70's and the Montreal Canadians were playing their rivals the Boston Bruins and Guy Lafleur hit the puck from the opposite end and the puck just sailed across the ice all the way into the Bruins' net and SCORE!! It was like time stood still and no-one moved, the puck was on its own - it was such a rush - it was one of the greatest goals I have ever seen

I am not so into hockey... as a child, I was traumatized by a faulty TV screen which had a tiny black dot in the centre. The players would sweep right past the "puck" all the time! AAAAGGGH!

Anyway, much later, I was hanging out with my boyfriend, watching hockey. He knew I wasn't into it but couldn't help but watch it, as it is quite important (as every Canadian knows). I was falling asleep. Every time a fight broke out, I straightened right up. He turned to me and said, "You're such a barbarian! You only like the fights!"

(sigh) it's true...

1962 Ontario provincial minor bantom provincial championship game in Coburg. The final game was against Parry Sound with Bobby Orr. Coburg was a dry town so our assistant coach went to Trenton to get some beer. He stopped in a hotel and did not make it back for the game ( our equiptment in his station wagon) Lucky for us, our peewee team was also there in the provincial peewee final. The five smallest players used the equiptment of the five biggest peewees plus the goalie and put up a decent try loosing 5-2. The assistant coach planed a big party for us when we returned to Scarborough, but he partied alone!!!!!

I think the best hockey past time for me was watching Tiger Williams at the Maple Leaf Gardens. Those were the times that stayed with me the most, he was a very colourful human being. Perhaps seeing the great Borje Salming is one of the highlights of my time, as I was ten and my dad was always able to get hockey tickets. Sitting at the Maple Leaf Gardens with my dad and he always loved going to those games, he always made sure that I we got there early so that I could sign autographs. Sadly we could never get tickets for my dads 75th birthday as it is nearly impossible to get, but he is watching now probablly front row.

My favorite hockey memory is being able to attend NHL games with my son for a reasonable price. Due to the ever increasing costs of a ticket and the 'extras'. like parking, program, etc.,etc., I like so many others, haven't been at a hockey game in close to 20 years and doubt very much if I ever will again. Thanks very much NHL.

My favourite memory is when I was playing goal in ball hockey. The other team had a guy who was on the school ice hockey team. He had a wicked shot, really hard! You could see the ball curve as it came toward you when he shot it. His idea of taking it over centre was to shoot on net. Our centre tried to block him, but he got the shot away. I snapped my head toward it and flicked my glove hand up in the air at it. I saw the faces of everyone go oblong and I saw hair on the ball, which had become oblong too. The yard behind me and the net went up into a big, tarred-over hill. We all waited for the ball to come back down for a bit. Then I glanced in my glove. I shivered and couldn't believe it, but I had caught it!

I will never forget the very first time I saw Wayne Gretzky.

Edmonton was playing the Winnipeg Jets.

Our seats sucked.

But I went down to the plexy glass while the boys were doing thier pre-game warm up.

I remember being in awe of him. And rest of his team

Kurrie,Coffee,Lowe, Messier,Fuhr.

I could not belive that he was real and I was watching him.

Felt like I was the only one in the rink.

I had the pleasure of seeing him many more times and got several autographs over the years.

He was always so so nice.

Even if they were booed all night.

No one will ever hold a candle to my Wayne.

After the Oilers won the Stanley Cup in 1988. Through mutual friends I went to Mark Messiter's parents house and drank out of the Sanley Cup. They live in St. Albert, Alberta and I lived there as well. There was Lobster and Champage all over the kitchen. Then I sang New York, New York for them and Mark laughed all the way through. He said I had more guts then most chicks be-cause I stood in his parents kitchen and sang New York, New York. He has been my favourite player ever since.

When I hit Grade 11 and P.E. was no longer mandatory. Not that I did much hockey in highschool, if any, but just the utter sense of freedom that from that point onward, sports would become just utter nonsense. Indeed, sports are garbage.

My favourite road hockey moment...when I was playing goaltender, I committed myself to na low shot so I flattened myself on my side and when the ball was shot high, I rose my right leg up to stop it, the ball fell into my chest and I held on for a face-off. Or the time when I robbed a very hard wrist shot that was taken by one of the best minor league players in my city.

I grew up the southern US and had never watched a hockey game in my life. Hockey was important to my husband so on our honeymoon, he took me to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the Dallas Stars at Maple Leaf Gardens. It was the night that Wendel Clark came back to the Leafs. We were in the nose bleed section, but I thought it was grand.

I was raised in Camp Wainwright, Alberta, Canada. My mother was watching a game and when she yawned the puck flew in her mouth causing her mouth to bleed and cut at the edges, after that they put up a net around the hockey rink. We are going back over 47 years ago......When I went to watch the games I made sure I was far back.

I was a security guard at a cement plant-nightshift- and was on the bus at seven thirty in the morning five days a week. One morning as I rode along two chinese boys got on loaded down with equipment bags, skates and sticks. It was obvious that one was describing the terrific shot he had performed at some time. He used the same motions as I had as a kid the only difference was he was speaking chinese. Made me feel better and sort of put paid to the "true" canadians argument against minorities being different. The first english or frenchman was different but they changed.

i played as a goalie and we were in a tournament, we always lose against this team that is hosting the tournament. So of course it comes down to us and them in the final game. It was my game to start and we score, 1-0, we're leading the whole game just 1-0. finally they pull their goalie near the end, they have the pressure on, but every shot they take, just seems to come slowly to me, last few sec. of the game my defence man has just enough time to shoot it down the ice. As i watch it go down.....and into XD the net. i knew we had won the game. So i shut out the best team, we win the tourny, and i get MVP for the game. One of the best days.

I'm 43, but I remember a game I played when i was 10 like it was 5 mins ago. I was a goalie, Gump Worsley was my hero.

The play came to our end, the game included Dads as well. The play was in my right corner. The ball shot straight out to the point, and a Dad fired a shot. I had spun around, with my goalie stick a foot off the ground, and level. The ball hit the stick, and dropped. I fired it past him, and he yelled at me, 'Who are ya? Ken Dryden's son!!!' I was peppered like crazy, and nothing went in. I frustrated the crap out of them!

In ice hockey, blasting a slapshot so hard, the goalie couldn't hang on to it - knocked his hand back, the puck fell out of his glove, into the net. I didn't even see the puck go - just heard it hit his glove, saw his hand jerk back and the puck drop.
