Pat Quinn? The guy who would trade youth for old washed up players and rentals? Sounds like that would be a vicious circle. Ugh.

He was the one who sent Fredrik Modin to Tampa for lumbering defenceman Cory Cross. Error was compounded by waiving up and comer Steve Sullivan to open up a roster spot. Yeah, bring back Quinn.

How about Phil Housley, Jonas Hoglund and Aki Berg? Owen Nolan anyone?

i think it will be good to fire John Ferguson because as they said on the news that they need a general manager who can improve this team and rebuild it to make it a cup contender, Sundin will be traded its tough to me to say that because he is a great captain for the leafs he gets point a game almost but im getting off topic here. Cliff fletcher is the person who can rebuild this team and i hope i can see them winning the stanley cup soon.

YES. Anyone is better than that j*ck off. I'll tell you what, I am glad they didn't fire Paul Marice. He knew exactly what he was getting into. Ferguson, Jr. sat on his hands and let stupid tansactions, like resigning Darcy Tucker for three years (despite not putting the bisquit in the net much) and not getting anyone new on the roster. What the leafs have done is clean house. First fired pat quin, now ferguson jr. NOW they need new, young talent. Period.

Well, I think its clear they will not be making the playoff's. It looks to me like a move to prep the team for the future....kinda like when Quinn was fired and Maurice was made coach....Altho we're still waiting to see the perks of that move.

Ya I think it would be a good choice and boost for the Leafs.

And Pat Quinn was the best thing to happen to the leafs, he just got okay in his last season.

Fletch is the man for this job. He is a wise assessor of talent and is available to do this job. The big job is still to be determined and Quinn is still in the running for that. However Al Strachan spent the afternoon on SCORE giving a rundown on possibilities. After about 60 his co chair shut him down. The strangest one was Bob Goodenough. Just a thought.

Bob before the lock out Quinn GM'd the best way for Toronto. You could always buy the future with enough money.

It's a good idea to fire Fergo to begin with. I'm a little indifferent towards Fletcher, but I don't like how it's on an "interim" basis. It's either hire him for the long-term or keep Fergo and let his contract expire.

Oh, and let's hope that they WON'T make the playoffs. Every game they lose will bring us one step closer to that high overall draft pick.

The idea behind today's decision was that the Leafs were toast, and that since the team wasn't going to renew JFJ's contract, there was no point in delaying the inevitable.

The hiring of Cliff Fletcher over Pat Quinn was primarily a decision based on their careers, and their reputations as talent developers. Scotty Bowman worked for Cliff Fletcher for years in Montreal and St. Louis before Fletcher became the Flames top guy and Scotty moved to become Montreal's coach. Fletcher has a great reputation. He built the Flames into the fastest team to reach 500 wins in NHL history. He was the guiding light behind Toronto leading the NHL in playoff games (and wins) in the 1990s.

The only things that count against him now are his age (he's been in hockey since 1956) and his desire (he's doing this strictly on an interim basis).

Over the next 6-7 months, he will be evaluating this team from top to bottom, and making recommendations what needs to be done to make this team competitive again. He knows his work is cut out for him, but I think he can do it.

Several of the players are disappointed it wasn't Quinn, but hey, Fletcher may choose him in the end.

They won't make the playoffs. Don't expect to see any immediate difference. After the Leafs are finished with their off season golfing Cliff will make some changes.

Umm they are still not going to make it to the playoffs even though Ferguson got fired. There is more problems that still needs to be fixed and firing Ferguson was just a start to it.
