Because you get slammed by guys that weigh 275lbs and can run a 4.5 40 and bench press 400lbs.
Because it requires much greater coordination and stamina.
Puckdat: I'm not trying to defend either sport, but the average Hockey player only actually plays for around 15 - 19 min in 45sec shifts, and a Football player can't just glide along like a Hockey player can. Of course Football players stand and sit around a lot too.
This is actually an apples and oranges comparison since they are two completely different sports.

Hockey is harder to play than football because u have to skate while puck handeling and im pretty sure on this playing both the sports football is hard but still i think hockey is harder.

It is growing much faster than basketball and attendance is right there with basketball so in terms of dollars it is as popular right now as basketball. Hockey requires a more intelligent viewer than for other sports as it is constant flow and extremely fast paced and the nuances of the game are more difficult to learn. Many people dont have the patience to understand complex anything so in that sense hockey will always be a more difficult sell. Plus it is a cold weather sport where basketball and football can be played anywhere at virtually any time. And ther are fewer places to play then add the cost of playing hockey and many people just never get the exposure because they never tried it (and many who do cant....it is a tough sport to play).

Hockey is harder to play because you are on skates and on ice. with guys checking you every which way. You are going after a little rubber puck with a stick. You could easily get cut by the skates, get hit with the puck, or fracture a bone falling to the ice. More accidents have accrued in hockey than in football such as getting cut by the throat concussions broken noses and teeth.

Hockey is harder to play than football because there is actually 60 minutes of action in a game. (football averages 22 min per game)

Hockey is harder to play than football because you have to skate around and must use a stick. You must know how to skate if your playing ice hockey.

I'm a fan of both, so I'll answer both:
1. The hits are a lot more violent, and a lot more frequent.
2. You have to be an excellent skater, and you have to play five times as many games as a football player does every season.

it is difficult to play hockey without learning how to skate first!
Speed and brains are a requirement for the skill positions in both sports but running and dipsy doodling in a pair of cleats is much easier than in a pair of skates IMHO.

not only are you on knife like pieces of metal, that are very sharp but you are on a very slippery surface but you are using a thin piece of wood to push a two two inch piece of rubber around. Not to forget that you can get hit and knocked off your feet and also can use your stick as any form of weapon to hurt your opponent, last year one of the goalies in the NHL got his throat cut by a skate. Some have the hits through have knocked out the player and you do not land on the soft grass when you fall you are on the hard surface of the ice. then there is blocking or getting hot by a shot it is not as nice as gettting hit by a foot ball that is onnly going maybe while you can get hit by a puck that can reach up to 90 or mph. and do not forgot that you have to put that little piece of rubber in a small net that is being blocked by a a goalie who takes up half of the net or more
