I have a rather silly question. I was reading an article about how Smoky the Bear is now 65. It got me thinking, What hockey mascot is the oldest? Which team had one first? Did a minor league team have one before the NHL team did? Anyone know for sure? I am not a huge fan of Wiki so do not really 100% trust that answer.
Also random thing: On today's date 9/23/1992 Manon Rheaume played in the only NHL exhibition game a woman has ever played in. Just to throw that out there.

It could be the Bulldog mascot of the Quebec Bulldogs that joined the NHL in 1908 and played until 1920 then they were sold to Hamilton, Ontario and became the Hamilton Tigers, ( NHL. 1920 to 1925)

Harvey the Hound is the first NHL mascot that has been around for any extended period of time... he came out in 1983

The Flyers had a guy named "Slapshot" in 76 but he was gone the next year. I have no idea what he was supposed to be...just some weird creature I guess

Here is a picture of him: http://www.whyy.org/blogs/unobstructedview/files/2008/10/slapshot.jpg

The Penguins also apparently had an actual penguin but I don't think thats a mascot in the sense that we think of it today.

The Hershey Bears mascot debuted in 1978...

The Rochester Americans(aka Amerks) mascot "The Moose" might be older than that but he wasn't the Amerks mascot at first... they borrowed him from a radio station to entertain kids, he debuted as a hockey mascot in 1979.

The Montreal Canadiens mascot has been around since 1979 as well although he was the mascot for the Expo's and only adopted to the Canadiens after they Expo's folded.

While I can't totally answer your question those are some of the older ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't know the answer for sure Kimmy. But I recall reading something about the mascot for (are you sitting down?) the Hershey Bears.

I can't confirm it but I think it might be the first one in hockey.

01. ought to Nash be sixteen? How approximately sixty two? 02. i'm uncertain. i haven't seen the two of them. I see their names on right here lots recently. 03. i could supply Myers the prospect. 04. i've got not got one simply by fact i don't get it. Yeah, i'm THAT dumb. 05. i'm extremely particular that there could be NO grant good adequate to get the Caps to commerce Ovechkin. 06. as long simply by fact the screenplay isn't in accordance with an modern-day literary artwork yet is an self sufficient artwork on that is very own written especially to be a demonstrate play i think of is might desire to be seen a literary artwork. One in accordance with an modern-day artwork or e book, no longer lots. Bonus: 07. activities, like politics might properly be genuine grimy. It would not marvel me in any respect. I even have in many cases puzzled WHY the NHL picked a b-ball guy. it continuously sounds like manhattan communities get breaks. that's greater advantageous than probably accident. That, and the fact they they have the money. I remember the 1st interview that i observed with Ewing whilst he grew to become into with Georgetown and that i'm no longer mendacity as quickly as I say i could no longer understand a be conscious the guy stated., no longer one be conscious. fortuitously, he have been given greater advantageous at conversing. The MJ element, particularly? i assumed the full baseball element grew to become into VERY peculiar. i think that must be the clarification. How do we ever be attentive to? That Michigan State team in 1979 grew to become into extraordinary. probable the final time fowl regarded particularly undesirable in his B-ball profession. flow away it to LITY to set us without delay as regular. a minimum of i assumed my guesses have been conceivable. no longer knowledgable, yet they have been only guesses.
