Who likes the new rivalry system in the NHL?

I'm kinda mad about the new way the NHL schedule is set up. The wings played the Blue Jackets and the Blackhawks 8 times each I believe. I think teams play teams in their own division 8 times each. Unfortunately, and no offense to people in columbus and chicago, at least last year, the teams were not very good so my team, detroit, for example got about 30 extra points by playing "easier" teams. This made them seem better than they were and so management didn't make any trades. False sense of security i guess.

If I also remember correctly the wings, an original 6 team didn't play boston OR toronto this year at ALL.

How do you all feel about the new scheduling...do you think we should go back to the way the schedules used to be?

I hate the new schedule....you watch the same match-ups over and over. It was supposedly put in place to try and get some rivalry going between teams, but, all it's done is make me watch something else when the same 2 teams are playing......again......for the fourth, fifth, hundredth time in the past 30 days.

There's some teams that never meet because "someone" in their infinite wisdom thought you wanted to see the same 3 or 4 teams for the entire freakin' season!

The new schedule sucks!!!

I'm not a fan of the new scheduling at ALL. In a division like the Northwest division, worthy teams don't make the playoffs by virture of the other teams in their division being of such high quality (the Vancouver Canucks are a great example). In addition, as a fan of the Colorado Avalanche, I don't get to see great talents like Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby every year. Plus, a team like the Red Wings or Predators gets to play the Blue Jackets, Blackhawks, and Blues a total of 24 games a year, more than a quarter of its schedule. Rivalry scheduling was a worthy idea, but ultimately, it fails.

Any long time hockey fan will tell you that real rivialries are born in the playoffs (like the Avs/Wings series of the 90's). I do not think you can "force" rivalries by having division teams play each other more during the regular season. Also, living in Virginia, I enjoy going to either DC or Raleigh to see Western teams once in a while. Opportunities to see teams from the West have decreased tremendously under this new scheduling system.

I agree if you get situation like last year with Detroit you are going to win the Presidents Trophy and then get put out in the first round when you face a team from a tough division from the Northwest. I would like to see them do a odd number of games for division teams that way it is sort of a series throughout the season and makes a tie breaker easy. I would also like to see the division games reduced so that we get more East - West games I think it would be good for some markets to have Jagr, Crosby, Ovechkin, The Leafs, the Canadians show up more them once every three years. Plus with the media the way it is, it's almost like you have to different leagues the East doesn't pay attention to the West and the West doesn't pay attention to the East except for maybe two, 3 week segments a year.

I've never had a problem with the present set-up in scheduling, but for the fact that any team goes without playing a select division in the other conference on a year-to-year rotational basis. This year the Flyers didn't play Dallas, LA, Anaheim, San Jose, and Phoenix. It seems to be a "sensible" compromise but I think it would be acceptable to reduce the number of games within the Atlantic Division to 6 per team and spread those games to the Western Conference. And likewise throughout the league.

I think it should be decreased, but as a Rangers fan, it was great seeing them play the Devils, Flyers, and Islanders more. I understand it stinks for some of the teams who don't really have rivalries, but I think that may change as the league continues this system and more teams reach the same level due to the salary cap.

The worst part about the new nhl schedual is that a team like detroit gets to play columbus, chicago and st.louis 8 times a year while my canucks get stuck playing edmonton, calgary and colorado 8 times a year (mind you they did lose all of their 4 games to st.louis...)

A perusal of awesome three hundred and sixty 5 days's time table shows Washington performed in Anaheim, l. a. and San Jose very last three hundred and sixty 5 days; previous to that it became 2006. previous to Ovechkin my wager is Washington became considered a spread of "who cares" video games. i'm hoping to make a visit out to California with the Truculence and Pugnacity international excursion for this three hundred and sixty 5 days and word each and each and every of the Expats living in California. Plus, I lived in California for decades and nevertheless have some contacts. right that's the difficulty- the league needs divisional video games (on your large-marketplace jap Conf. communities, that's the divisional video games which have meaning (the former Patrick/Norris branch rivalries esp.) alongside with communities your crew has performed distinct circumstances contained in the playoffs. Plus, it cuts down on go back and forth costs. i'm no longer keeping you haven't got a level. i'm keeping that they switched for a reason. The objective (obviously) is detect a stability. a lot of this (want for added inter-convention video games) is from Western Conf. communities who favor to be sure Crosby, Ovechkin, etc.

I think that it will be Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers will be a big rival coming up and the Wings and Bluejackets that is because of the rival in college football witch is Ohio State and Michigan. It is not that brutal ( Wings V.S Blue jacket)
