Question:
Should NHL Teams be awarded 3 pts. for a win in regulation during the regular season?

I think that they should.
Why should 3 pts. be up for grabs in an OT game, but not for a game in regulation?
The way it is now, a team is better off splitting a 2 game series in OT (3 pts. each) than in regulation (2 pts. each). This encourages teams to play for ties, and possibly, rig season series with other teams so that they split OT games.

Besides, a team that wins in regulation should get more points than a team that can't win in 60 minutes. Agree or disagree?

they should adopt the soccer formula 3 pts for win, 2 pts for ot/so win, 1 pt for ot/so loss and 0 pts for reg. loss.

Personally, I'd prefer 1 point for a win and 0 points for a loss. I don't care if the win or loss comes in 60 minutes or 500 minutes. I don't like the shootout. I prefer a game to have continous OT until someone scores. Then there's a winner and a loser in every game. No ties, no shootout losses, no extra points.

I think the shootout is the stupidest way to resolve a game. In no way whatsoever does it determine who is a better team

I would rather see ties, to be honest, and continuous OT in regular season is not possible, especially since players have back-to-back games

I think 1 pt for wins in reg or OT, 0 for a loss or tie

3 points aren't up for grabs in an OT game. Teams get 1 point for going to overtime and if they win then they get the second point. So I don't really understand this question.

The point system is fine the way it is, unless they bring continuous ot then don't change it. No reason to not reward a team for losing in a shootout

I disagree, this is hockey not soccer. Also you do get awarded for winning in regulation, if the Dallas stars won this year, they would have got in over Chicago because of less R.O.W points. Meaning that Dallas had more regulation wins the Chicago did, if you had looked they changed the formatting this year for tiebreakers.

No. I don't like the point system as it is. I wish it was like the other leagues where if you win a game you're record gets better. if you win in overtime, then you win in overtime. I don't agree with splitting points.

No, win you win, lose you get nothing. Ties are gone, so no need to reward mediocrity.
