Icing is when a player from the offensive team controls the puck before reaching the center ice line. He shoots the puck all the way down behind the opposite goal WITHOUT anybody on the defending team being able to play the puck prior to crossing the goal line. Often, the linesmen will wave off the icing if the player is within 2 feet of the center line prior to dumping the puck. Also, an icing can only be called when the offensive team is either on the powerplay or at an even strength situation. The puck then goes either to the left or right of the goaltender of the team who shot the puck depending on which side of the rink the puck was touched up on.



An offside is when a player controls the puck completely crosses the blue line after another offensive player completely crosses it. If the player doesn't have control of the puck when it crosses the blue line, it is a delayed offside. All offensive players must then touch up at the blue line at the same time before going back into the offensive zone and playing the puck. Play is only stopped on a delayed offside when an offensive player makes contact with the puck before all teammates touched up at the same time prior to contact. If an offside is called, the puck is dropped at one of the two blue circles next to the blue line, again depending on which side of the ice the offsides occured on.

Icing is when you dump the puck from behind the red line and the puck crosses the goal line without anybody touching it. Offside is when you make a pass to your player who is in the offensive zone passing the blue line before puck crosses the blue line.

Icing is when you shoot the puck from behind the red line and it crosses the red goal line. An offsides is when you cross the other teams blue line before the puck and then the puck crosses the line.

Icing is where the puck crosses the two blue lines without any player touching it, though this call can be called off if a player is within reach of the puck, and simply chose not to touch it.

Off sides is when the puck enters the attacking zone(pass the second blue line) when a player of the attacking team is still in the"zone". also for the complete rules for the NHL see http://www2.nhl.com/hockeyu/rulebook/

what they said and offsides is also when someone is aross the faceoff line and when the goalie crosses the red line, icing is also when the puck touches the celing
